Systems Development Consultant

The Systems Development Consultant  designs, develops, tests and documents modules or features of new or upgraded software systems/products for complex, high-speed, high-availability computers such as desktop, industrial, and embedded computers and other IT related products such as device drivers. Such activities may include the following as well as other duties as assigned. They provide technical and engineering support functions for Converged, Hyper converged infrastructures, and cloud-based solutions. Consults with customers on a regular basis concerning design, development and maintenance of product. Coordinates installation procedures. Assists customers with technical solutions to support the customer's business objectives. May also perform other similar responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Develops systems/features within project cost, schedule, and scope parameters.
  • Develops test scripts to debug designs and validation procedures to verify the operation of new devices such as hard drives, tape drives, memory and processors. Ensures product meets internal and external quality requirements and customer specifications.
  • May assist in the completion of technical documentation, e.g., system block diagrams, engineering specification sheets and validation procedures. May manage vendors through the prototype phase of projects.

  • Failure to accomplish work or erroneous decisions will result in serious project delays and expenditure of substantial resources to remedy.
  • Typically 5-8 years with bachelors' or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in in Engineering, Management Information Systems or Computer Science. 
  • Proficiency in the use of Unix, Linux and Solaris operating systems.
  • Ability to develop drivers for Solaris, Linux and Windows.
  • May be required to travel. 
Industry certifications/experience preferred:
  • VMware Certified Professional 6.5 - Data Center Virtualization / VMware Certified Professional 6 Desktop and Mobility (VCP6-DTM), Nutanix Platform Professional (NPP), (CCNA) Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching.
  • Knowledge in networking protocols, switching and routing protocols.
  • Virtualization background to include VMware (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi), Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine)
  • Knowledge of SMTP, DNS, DHCP, and other foundation services
  • Experience with Virtual networking; for example, VMware NSX.
  • Deep understanding of software-defined storage with a focus on distributed storage.
  • Background with direct attached storage arrays, SAN switches and storage arrays
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of storage technologies, NAS & SAN protocols and data protection.
  • Experience with remote file access protocols, including NFS, SMB (CIFS)
